Playing their part in the 1916 commemoration programme with a theatrical presentation called ‘Sowing the Wind’. The production sets out to give a flavour of life in Birr and in the country generally in the early years of the 20th century and culminates in the actual events of

 the Rising. The story is told in poetry, song and dramatic dialogue and follows the historical narrative of the time, dealing with the Gaelic cultural revival, the impact of WW1, the Irish Volunteers and Easter week and its aftermath. An interesting dimension to the production will be the use of contemporary photographs and newsreel.’
