Offaly Annual Heritage Seminar

This year the Offaly Annual Heritage Seminar will be held in Birr Castle Courtyard taking the opportunity to see the newly revamped Science Centre.

15th November 2014

The programme will include morning visits to the Lough Boora Discovery Park centre (officially opening next Monday) and a guided tour of the Birr Science Centre. 

The afternoon talks will include

  • The c17 De Renzi Papers in Offaly County Library and their cataloguing by archivist, Lisa Shortall
  • The Banagher Swords found in 2012, 2014 and the insights they provide after conservation by Andy Halpin curator and Carol Smith, conservator, National Museum of Ireland.
  • Offaly Burial Ground Database by Stephen Callaghan, Heritage Office, Offaly County Council
  • Architecture in Offaly – research for the forthcoming book on Central Leinster by Andrew Tierney, architectural historial
  • Lough Boora Discovery Park by Tom Egan, Bord na Mona
