RTE All Ireland Drama Festival

The RTE All Ireland Drama Festival is a unique event exclusive to the rich story telling tradition of the island of Ireland. Each year since 1953 the best amateur drama groups compete in Athlone. The final night is a glittering gala diner announcing the winners.

Athlone

28th April to 7th May 2016

The main festival sells out quickly, however there is an extensive fringe festival which has grown up around this event. This includes lunch time theatre, schools' playwright competition, art and photograph exhibitions, jazz and traditional Irish music concerts, marching pipe bands, food and artisan crafts fair, theatre workshops, poetry reading, historic walking tours and choral, baritone and piano recitals, and more. All of these events are free or at a nominal charge and happen at various famous, cultural and commercial venues around the historic city of Athlone
