2014 is the UN 20th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family and to celebrate the theme for National Heritage Week 2014 is, ‘Family … generations exploring heritage together’.
National Heritage Week is a wonderful platform for families to come together to get involved in a wide range of activities as a family. This year we want to encourage families, young and old, to get out and connect with the heritage that is ingrained in all of us. For the older generation, the week is an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge of Ireland’s heritage with children and grandchildren, in particular reflecting on the changes that have taken place over the years. For families of all ages, it is a chance to take a break from the daily grind and explore the hidden treasures of our heritage, whether it is our built, cultural or natural heritage.
To register your event log on to www.heritageweek.ie . All events registered by 31st May 2013 will be listed in the National Heritage Week Event Guide which will be available free at OPW Sites, Heritage Centres & Historical Societies, Fáilte Ireland Tourist Offices, Libraries, CNCI Members, NPWS Sites, Heritage Officers and County Councils, An Óige Hostels, Various Individual Museums (MSPI Participants), Bus Eireann Stations and some Hotels across the country.
Heritage Week is co-ordinated by The Heritage Council and is part of European Heritage Days, which is celebrated in over 40 countries across Europe.
