Birr and Clara
31st October to 3rd November 2012
This year’s programme sees lots of new activities including Human Beatbox workshop with Ireland’s leading beatboxer White Noise, The Illustrators (an exhibition of children’s book illustrations curated by renowned children’s books writer, Julia Donaldson), Mad Science introduces children to a world of discovery in their Energy Show. and live performances – Aesop’s Fabulous Foibles and Fables, Jackula – a spooktacular magic show and Spraoi – performed by The Gombeens. More activities include Bollywood dance, craft, origami, story-making, film (Monster House), puppet making and storytelling. Workshops are age specific and all age groups are catered for.
Sinead O’Reilly, Arts Officer with Offaly County Council says “when programming this year we were eager to provide new events for children, particularly activities that they wouldn’t ordinarily have a chance to try outside of a festival setting. The festival embraces the idea that children are entitled to have their own access to culture and arts experiences that are made especially for them. ”.
Workshops cost up to €3, live performances and film are €3 (1 adult and 2 children €8) and there are also some free events. Emma Nee Haslam, Venue Manager, Birr Theatre & Arts Centre says “parents tell us how delighted they are that we have this Festival scheduled during the mid-term break - children have a huge choice of activities during their school holidays at an affordable price”.
Hullabaloo! is jointly co-ordinated by Offaly County Council Arts Office and Library Services, Birr Theatre & Arts Centre and Clara Family Resource Centre and supported by Offaly Local Development Company.
