Saints and Scholars Festival

A week long programme to reflect and promote the legacies of the monastic settlements of Clonmacnoise and Clonfert, both by the River Shannon. Learn about the rich legacy of education, celtic Christianity, arts & crafts, scriptoria and the preservation and teaching of both the spiritual and classical knowledge.

Clonmacnoise and Shannonbridge

26th October to 2nd November 2013

Invite Celtic Monastic communities from Europe to reconnect with their Irish Heritage. The monastic settlements of Clonmacnoise and Clonfert which are both adjacent to the River Shannon were major settlements and their legacy was far reaching in terms of Education, Celtic Christainity , Arts and Crafts, Scriptoria, and the Preservation and Teaching of both the Spiritual and Classical knowledge.

To regenerate and advocate interest in the legacy of Clonmacnoise and Irish Monasteries.

To build a network of connections in other countries which would have an common interest.

To research and engage with Monastic sites in Europe which have a cultural, ecclesiastical or historical connection with Irish Monasteries.

To Connect with Universities and build on Clonmacnoises status as Europes first University

To build a series of events at Clonmacnoise and Shannonbridge which will bring visitors, including Seminars and Lectures, Autumn School, Arts and Music and Academical studies etc.

To apply for twinning between Clonmacnoise and European Monastic Settlements.
