It’s that time of the racing year when the most prestigious chase of the summer season, outside of the Galway Plate, takes place at Kilbeggan. The very popular Gigginstown House Midlands National of €50,000 has provided a series of thrilling races over the last few years and the meeting next Friday 19th July commences at 5.55PM.

Last year Phillip Fenton’s very useful Caim Hill (11/2) galloped home in the big race sponsored yet again by Gigginstown House and after a recent win at Limerick perhaps he is going for a repeat and as we know course specialists have a great record on the track, such as Akatara which has won at the last two meetings. Another pointer for the big race is that Noel Meade has been in great form at Kilbeggan this year having won 4 of the last 10 races and perhaps his useful novice chase winner Tom Horn might be back for the big race. It should be a cracking exhilarating and mouth- watering race.

Tom Lynam, who has done so much for Kilbeggan Races over the past number of years, is again sponsoring the Coola Maiden Hurdle. The Tom McCormack Hurdle is in memory of man who was Secretary and a committee member for many years. This year is appropriately the 40th anniversary of the first two sponsored races at Kilbeggan and he contributed very much to that event. The other sponsored race is Irish Stallion Farms European Breeder’s Fund Beginners Chase of €11,000.

Coco Chanel said “Fashion changes, style endures” and there should be plenty of style & elegance at Kilbeggan next Friday. This year’s Best Dressed Ladies Competition will have a prize of €2,000 including a €1,000 shopping spree at Dundrum Shopping Centre and a Woman of Style Weekend at Wineport Lodge, Athlone.

The Best Dressed judge at this year’s meet will be the very popular Marietta Doran. Marietta is the foremost commentator on fashion at all the glamorous meetings in the horseracing calendar and is well known to TV viewers as the resident fashion presenter on RTE Racing and Channel 4 Racing. A seasoned Best Dressed judge Marietta has exclusively revealed some tips for ladies hoping to scoop the top prizes and what she will be looking for at The Gigginstown House Midlands National on Friday July 19th

• Choose outfits that will make you look confident & comfortable, this is so important.
• Identify the shape & colour that suits you best.
• A simple nod to current fashion trends is important, whilst always dressing appropriately.
• Impeccable grooming is a must (clever racing ladies always come prepared i.e. change of shoes, cover up, hair pins etc.).
