A new exciting cultural and community project has arrived in Edenderry.
Published: 4th October 2012
Public Access Arts was recently established as a nonprofit organization that recognizes that the arts are an integral part of a healthy community and it aims to unite, discover and celebrate the creative potential of Edenderry.
In a bid to unite all arts and cultural activities in the town and surrounding area, artists and members of the community have come together to form Public Access Arts, which will offer a broad-based programme of visual, performing, literary arts for the town.
All this will take place at Public Access Arts in JKL Street (next door to the Ulster Bank) Edenderry, Co. Offaly. The venue will be open from October with an official opening planned for later in November. Everyone is invited to pop in and say hello when the doors are open.
The main themes of Public Access Arts is "accessible arts"; live-events such as drama, music and dance alongside workshops, exhibitions by professional and amateur artists including local schools and community groups.
Leading the project is Tim Mann of Rushbrook Studios who says “The Arts are an essential part of all our lives. We are excited about this project because of the collaboration between artists, performers, writers and the community we are making the arts more accessible. This has already created a new, lively, exciting and challenging project.”
Responding to the news Arts Officer, Sinead O’Reilly remarked “This is a really social and enterprising idea coming from artists. It is animating the town centre and in addition to the library, is providing another hub for creativity and social interaction. I am sure it will be a catalyst for much more creative and enterprising activity and we very much urge local people to get behind it and to lend their support.” One of the first projects will include an ambitious installation involving the entire community.
