County Allocations for LEADER Element of Rural Development Programme
Published: 11th March 2015
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney T.D. has welcomed the announcement of the County allocations for the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme (RDP).
"LEADER projects provide vital funds to rural communities throughout the country and have helped create and sustain jobs in areas that have potential local projects that need support to get up and running. There are many success stories attributed to LEADER projects and I am delighted this funding will allow for further projects to benefit".
“Following on from the recent opening of the new €1.4bn Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS), the County allocations for LEADER funding mark another important milestone in the implementation of the new Rural Development Programme (RDP), 2014-2020. The schemes and supports in the new RDP will be a vital support in enhancing the economic sustainability of rural Ireland and the Agri-Food sector”
As announced in Budget 2015, an overall €250 million will be allocated towards the LEADER element of the Rural Development Programme. Today’s announcement will allocate €220 million overall to individual sub-regional (county) areas for the purposes of the implementation of the LEADER elements of the Rural Development Programme by Local Action Groups within those areas.
An additional €15million will be allocated to two Agri-Food measures and a further €10 million will be used to support cooperation projects over the lifetime of the programme with a particular emphasis on cross-border initiatives.
