Get involved and promote Heritage Week in your County

Published: 28th June 2013

The Heritage Council, coordinators of National Heritage Week (17th – 25th August 2013) has today issued a call for people to get involved and promote Heritage Week in their county by becoming a County Ambassador.

The Heritage Council ‘County Ambassador Volunteer Programme’ seeks to recruit volunteers in every county. Located in the local Tourism Information Office throughout the week, the role of the County Ambassador will be to provide tourists with information on what is happening in the local area as part of National Heritage Week.

Training and support will be provided by the Heritage Council and Fáilte Ireland to all volunteers the week commencing 12th August 2013. If you are interested in becoming a County Ambassador for the week, log on to www.heritageweek.ie, the deadline to apply is 31st July 2013.

Recognising the opportunity to engage with tourists while they are here on holidays, the Heritage Council developed the National Heritage Week County Ambassador Volunteer Programme. Last year we had over 40 volunteers in twelve counties across Ireland. The week is a great platform for people to highlight their areas heritage assets and to promote what makes their place so unique. We are looking for people with an interest in their local area and heritage who are keen to share this interest with others. With over 1,600 events expected to take place during the week, 2013 looks set to be one of the most successful to date.”
