Get ready for a Giant Blue HULLABALOO! Offaly’s Children’s Arts Festival
Published: 9th October 2014
Now in its 8th year ‘Hullabaloo! Offaly’s Children’s Arts Festival’ has become an eagerly awaited event on both children and parents’ calendars. The Festival takes place in Birr, Clara and Edenderry during the October mid-term break (Wed 29 Oct -Sat 1 Nov) and is a guaranteed great selection of family orientated creative workshops, shows and activities.
This year’s programme features a very special performance by TADS of Marina Carr’s play for children A GIANT BLUE HAND as well as a MOON & SIXPENCE puppet show, the Robin William’s Film JUMANJI and lots of workshops in music, cartoons, graffiti, storytelling, singing, dance and bags of stuff to make!! There are special ‘Day of the Dead’ Halloween inspired workshops taking place in Edenderry by Stagecraft Ireland which culminates in a Flash Mob and to round off the festival, the 4B Brass Band will do a whistle stop tour of Hullabaloo towns with music from cartoons such as the Simpsons and Itchy and Scratchy!
So kids get ready… make a museum of made up stuff, meet Mrs. Books, go faerie hunting in Birr Castle, make bugs and masks, draw cartoons, watch a puppet show, learn the cup song and find out what happens when a giant blue hand comes out of the sea and steals a little boys family!
Hullabaloo! Offaly’s Children’s Arts Festival programme was launched by Conor Dwyer, Birr’s Special Olympic Hero along with students from his former school St. Brendan’s Boys Primary at Birr Theatre and Arts Centre. The Festival is organised by Offaly County Council Arts Office together with Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Clara Family Resource Centre and Offaly Library Services. The Festival’s aim is to give children aged from 2- 12 access to arts experiences especially for them and to encourage children to use their imagination, discover new interests and be inspired by performances.
The programme for the Festival is available on-line at www.offaly.ie or www.birrtheatre.com or from your local library and various shops. Programmes will also be delivered to schools around the three towns. Please do book early as places are limited and demand is high. More information is available from 057 9357400 and 057 9122911.
