A platform for Regional Food Producers to showcase Regional Produce & to Grow their Business in 2014.
A fantastic tradition of food production exists in the Midlands and this event is all about letting everyone in on our secret!
On April 7th under the MidlandsIreland.ie brand an inter agency collaboration between the Midland Regional Authority, Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland, Laois, Longford, Offaly & Westmeath County Enterprise Boards, and Lakelands & Inland Waterways (Waterways Ireland and Fáilte Ireland) will launch a suite of initiatives supporting Midland regional food producers:
One-to-One Mentor Clinics ● Digital Media Workshop ● Ministerial Launch of Regional Food Directory ● Regional Food Champion ● Food & Regional Identity ● Regional Food Showcase
On the afternoon of April 7th regional producers will gather in the Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise Town to participate in a series of one to one mentor clinics from 1pm - 4.30pm designed to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in food packaging, finance, marketing, distribution and sales.
This will be followed by a workshop on Growing Your Food Business in 2014 - Your Business & Digital Marketing commencing at 4.30 for 1 hour, which will explore the many benefits to food businesses in embracing free online social media tools such as facebook, twitter and pinterest to name but a few. Details are contained in the flyer. Both the free clinics and workshop require registration in advance.
Mr Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Food & The Marine will launch the first issue of the MidlandsIreland.ie Regional Producers Directory at 6pm sharp which contains details of over 100 producers in the region across 10 categories including Bakery; Beverages; Confectionery; Catering / Cookery Schools / Training; Dairy; Meats; Organic; Prepared Foods; Preserves and Produce.
Ms Ella McSweeney as Master of Ceremonies will invite Mr Pat Lawlor of Ballard Organic Farm to share his experience as regional food champion with Kilbeggan Porridge. The Role of Food in Tourism and its importance in promoting an enhanced sense of place for the Midlands will be outlined by Ms Helen McDaid, Head of Food Tourism with Fáilte Ireland.
Following the launch a showcase of regional produce will take place where regional producers will be available to discuss their produce. Buyers from multiples and select independent retail stores on the island of Ireland have been invited and will attend along with hotels, guest houses and bed & breakfasts operating in the region, providing valuable networking opportunities.
So if you are a regional producer, a local shop owner, a business or a resident with a need to source great produce then this event is a must.
