Over €14.7 million in RRDF funding announced for Midlands Projects

The 3 successful projects in the Midlands are in Portarlington, Co Laois - €1.1m ; Kinnegad, Co Westmeath - €7.6m & Ballymahon, Co Longford - €5.9m

This funding is part of the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund from Dept. of Rural and Community Development and includes regeneration of vacant town centre buildings as remote working hubs, community centres & civic spaces in the Region.

Regeneration of Portarlington Market House and Square, Portarlington, Co Laois - €1,094,880 funding allocated:

This project is for the refurbishment and immediate reuse of the Market House located in the centre of Portarlington. The Market House will be reimagined as the central focus of the town with a range of public and community uses including community meeting space and an event and exhibition space. The project will regenerate a key focal point within the town, acting as a launching point for further regeneration and redevelopment in the town centre. 

Ballymahon ‘Pobal le Cheile’, Ballymahon, Co Longford - €5,991,916 funding allocated:

This is a transformational regeneration project for Ballymahon to address the social, economic and physical needs of the town. The project will bring a number of vacant buildings located in the centre of the town back into use to provide key services for the local community including enhanced family support services, a new dedicated youth club, enhanced elderly care services and a new rural working hub. The project will have a significant and sustainable impact on the social and economic development of the community by delivering a campus of scale that will provide community services and deliver sustainable regeneration 

Kinnegad Regeneration, Kinnegad, Co Westmeath - €7,643,916 funding allocated:

This is a transformative project for Kinnegad that will enhance the attractiveness and appeal of the town and bring social and economic benefits to the entire community. The project will deliver a state-of-the-art modern library, an education and training facility, as well as a town park and additional community facilities. This multi-faceted project for the centre of Kinnegad will restore its vitality and vibrancy, delivering the social infrastructure needed to meet the social and economic needs of the town.
