Published: 29th May 2013

In partnership with the Arts Office, writer Ann Egan facilitated a series of 3 creative writing workshops with the 50 + Active Age Group in Portlaoise in the Parish Centre, with the final workshop taking place in Áras an Chontae on Tuesday 29thMay.

The theme for the project was “The Place Where I was Born”. Ann gave workshops based on memories of the past, places of childhood and places of many beginnings. The workshops were received with great enthusiasm. The members of the 50 + Active Age Group in Portlaoise participated fully in the project. They wrote many pieces that vividly recalled memories of their childhood places. Many expressed their surprise and delight at what had come to mind. One outcome the participants would like to achieve is to form a writing group where they would continue exploring the richness and variety of their memories. They thoroughly enjoyed the workshops. Ann Egan said “It was a great privilege to be present and to hear the wonderful and rich recall of each persons memories of childhood.
