2023 Green Awards features 7 Midlands Finalists

The Midlands region is celebrating an outstanding 7 Award Nominations at the upcoming Green Awards 2023, which recognise the very best in Green Business and Sustainability across Ireland.

Topping the Midlands entries is Laois’s C J Sheeran, nominated for 3 Awards. The Mountrath-based business is Ireland’s top producer and recycler of wooden packaging products, and are no stranger to sustainability awards, having recently won the 2022 Business Recycling Champion Award. They are finalists for 3 Green Awards:

  • Sustainable Energy Achievement Award
  • Green Manufacturer Award
  • Excellence in Waste Management Award

Athlone-based DPD Ireland are the largest parcel delivery company in the country, handling over 20 millions parcels each year. The company have put sustainability at the core of their business, currently converting their entire heavy good vehicle fleet to run on renewable hydrogenated vegetable oil, and launching a major air quality monitoring initiative in Irish cities. They are finalist for 2 Green Awards:

  • Green Large Organisation of the Year
  • Green Logistics and Transport Company Award

The FACTORY, based outside Birr in Offaly, are no stranger to Sustainability Awards. The design and print company have won multiple awards in recent years, including an SEAI Sustainability Award, and were a past winner at the Green Awards in 2022. The company have put sustainability at the heart of their operations, and have become a shining example for small businesses across Ireland of just what can be achieved when sustainability is put at the centre of business planning. The family-run business now generate the majority of their power needs from on-site micro wind generation, run their deliveries with electrically-powered vehicles, and even have a dedicated nature habitat for bees at their building. They are nominated for a Green Award as

  • Green Small Organisation of the Year

Finally, Ballykilcavan Farm & Brewery, based in Stradbally, Laois round out the successful finalists from the region. The brewery are again a business which has been awarded many times for their sustainability work, previously winning the Small to Medium Business Award at the Sustainable Business Awards and winning the Sustainability Award from the Small Firms Association. They are nominated for a Green Award as:

  • Green Micro Organisation of the Year

Special mention also to a number of nominated businesses who have operations in the Midlands region

  • Dawn Meats – operations in Rathdowney and Kilbeggan – Sustainability Team of the Year
  • Kepak – operations in Kilbeggan – Green Large Organisation of the Year
  • Refillz Zero Waste – store at Solas Portarlingon – Green Micro Organisation of the Year
