Where are the Midlands?

The Midlands region encompasses 4 counties, each with their own distinct character. We’re the most connected region in Ireland, being centrally located and within easy reach of key coastal cities. And, with housing prices that are over 40% lower than in cities, the Midlands is also more affordable. Our region is filled with wide-open spaces, mountains, lakes, rivers and peatlands. We also have thriving sports clubs, education options, and a unique arts and festival scene, as well award-winning restaurants, bars and cafes.

Longford

Longford is located in the heart of the Lakelands, making it the ideal location for angling, kayaking or perhaps a boat trip to experience the stunning lakes and river first-hand. Most of Longford lies on the River Shannon with Lough Ree forming much of the county’s western boundary.

Westmeath

Often referred to as ‘the Lake County’ due to the abundance of lakes, rivers and waterways,  Westmeath is the largest county by population in the Midlands at 95,840. Home to the vibrant university town of Athlone, located on the banks of the Shannon, and Irelands’ music capital, Mullingar.

Offaly

Offaly is bursting with life, from the forests to the bogs to the well-developed network of towns and villages. The main Offaly towns of Tullamore and Birr are hubs of activity. Laois

Laois is Ireland’s most inland county, lending itself to gorgeous unspoilt landscapes, green forests and ‘the big sky’. Because of it’s connectedness to the road network and it’s central location, Laois has become a world renowned event space for hosting music festival ie. Electric Picnic and The World Ploughing Championships.
