100 great-value restaurants, cafes and places to eat in Ireland 2022

According to Corinna Hardgrave this list is all about value – “something we always seek out but is now more relevant than ever. So what you’ll find here are the smaller operators, many of them casual, where you’re as likely to be tucking into a bowl of steaming noodles as a few small plates in a wine bar, plus a handful of higher-end places where you’ll find real value on lunch or dinner menus.”

They have created 8 guides in their research and in the ’13 places to go for dinner’, Thyme Restaurant, Athlone is included. On the quality of their food “everything on John Coffey’s incredibly affordable menu is underpinned by quality”. Situated in the heart of Athlone, Thyme is the brainchild of accomplished chef, John Coffey and his wife Tara, who opened their doors in 2007, focusing on local produce and serving affordable, delicious food.

No strangers to awards, this year alone, they won 4 Irish Restaurant Awards. There is also mention of value for money in the “€39.50 value three-course dinner”. Situated in the centre of Athlone, with access to plenty of local attractions it’s one to put on your list! Book here Thyme Restaurant
