ResilMesh, a new collaborative EU project coordinated by the Technological University of the Shannon’s (TUS) Software Research Institute at the TUS Athlone Campus, has received a €7 million investment from the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.
Over the next 36 months, the project will focus on developing cyber situational awareness based on a Security Orchestration and Analytics Platform Architecture (SOAPA) toolset, to improve digital infrastructure resilience.
Director of the Software Research Institute and lead coordinator Dr Brian Lee said, “The increasing complexity of critical infrastructures makes it impossible for security teams to defend every entry point. ResilMesh aims to enable critical infrastructure to become more cyber resilient by providing tools and mechanisms to counter sophisticated attacks”
VP for Research, Development and Innovation at TUS Dr Liam Brown said, “Cybersecurity is a key challenge that society faces today. Led by Brian Lee and his team at the TUS Software Research Institute, supported by a number of leading European practitioners, the ResilMesh Horizon Europe project is a testament to the TUS Strategic RDI priority of applied research making a meaningful societal impact.
“The focus will be on a number of real-world pilots to ensure that the platform is evaluated across a wide range of critical infrastructures. It will also provide a suite of best practices to build cyber capacity to improve resilience preparation.”
14 organisations across nine European countries, which encompass higher education, research institutions, industry and end users, will help collaborators achieve higher levels of security and resilience by providing them with methods and tools to better manage the complexity of their digital infrastructures and services, to combat advanced persistent threats.
During their inaugural project meeting, held in Athlone last week, all partners expressed their enthusiasm about this initiative and its real-world applications.
