Abbeyleix

Abbeyleix is a market town situated on the old main road between Dublin and Cork. It’s central location makes it an ideal focal point to explore idyllic shops and eatieries.

A stroll through the town reveals many hidden gems and wonders. Beautiful gems like the Heritage House on the northern end of the town, the Sensory Gardens are situated in Dove House. Behind the old Post Office and the beautiful Mueller & O’Connell bakery lies the community gardens where there is often plenty of herbs free to take.

Across the road sits the magnificently restored Market House (now the local library), where there is a space for weekly markets which occur every Saturday.

At the south end of the town you’ll find Abbeyleix Bog, a gorgeous place to discover the unspoiled world and nature in the community-led conservation project which covers 200 ha of various natural habitats, including raised bog, wet woodlands, and ferns.
